A huge part of my life and my design work is all about making design more accessible for people. For me, reading has always been a struggle thanks to my dyslexia. I’ve played with different fonts in the past from Comic Sans to OpenDyslexic, and although they make reading easier, I’ve always had a hard time not getting distracted from the design of these typefaces.
For Dyslexia, a typeface is best when each character and letter is unique to prevent confusion with repetition. Because of this, each letterform is off-balanced and as someone who appreciates design, these letters became a distraction while reading. This is what inspired Balexia–a font that can be used for dyslexia but still has the balance that those other fonts were missing.
